Another New Year’s resolution: Bring a sketchbook. So far, mixed results, but I’ve certainly been drawing more in public than I thought I would.
To me, the easiest place to draw is a table. They’re flat. Sturdy. Good for placing things on top of. If I’m not sitting at a table, my sketchbook is in my tote bag, bouncing along with several loose coins, hair ties, and pens that don’t work.
Sometimes, especially when the news is bleak, it’s hard to come up with something to draw. But, luckily for me, a common symptom of sitting at a table in public is ordering food and drink. Public tables are never empty. It makes it a lot easier for me to forget the world and focus on what’s right in front of me (mostly coffee).
As a result, bringing my sketchbook with me this year has become a sort of exercise in cataloging food and drink (also mostly coffee).
This sketchbook dump doesn’t get at anything deep. It’s more of a ledger. Perhaps not a feast for the eyes, but at least a snack. I hope you enjoy scrolling through it at a nice sturdy table with your drink of choice (mine, you guessed it, is another coffee).
Sometimes, sitting at long tables (bars) also gives you the chance to soak up some colorful exchanges. I’ve been trying to capture those, too.
Here’s the only funny one (left) of a stressed finance bro on the phone (plus puppy).
Thanks, as always, for reading. Have a good weekend. Bring your sketchbook! <3
Oooo, I love this! Especially enjoyed "what I ate: 24 hours in NY." I carry a small sketch book, but I really don't know how to draw so I write in it instead. But since the words don't always come, the pages are sadly blank. And I wish to draw. Just like I wish to sing. I am going to draw next time! No one will see so who cares if the drawings are sub-kindergarten skill level. You inspired me today!
Be that guy! 🥰🥰
