Happy Cinco De Mayo! For me, on top of enjoying several margaritas today, I will also be celebrating one whole year since I married my husband by chanting Sanskrit on a stage in front of all our friends and family. So, today’s theme: weddings.
There are so many different types of weddings! Too many options. Beach, religious, destination, bohemian… bucolic? The sort of mania one enters as a bride in this day and age is unmatched. I blame Pinterest. But who wouldn’t go insane trying to plan a wedding? If you’re going to throw a big party, you want it to be a good one, right?
Ultimately, my mother-in-law took the reigns and planned the ceremony, which was a decidedly Hindu affair - love coconuts, rice, cows, and all. And we got to throw the party afterwards, which meant there were a few speeches, lots of cheap beer, and long talks under the full moon.
The thought of someone being momentarily bored or confused plagued me for months. But, in the end, none of it mattered. Everyone we know got to throw a lot of rice at us and tell us how much fun they had doing it. People come to these things because they love you. They want it to be perfect for you. And, boy, did we feel loved that day.
The auspicious date we were assigned (based on our birth charts) turned out to be pretty spot on. Despite all my worrying, we had a wonderful time. Thank you again to everyone who threw all that rice. <3
Do I know anyone getting married soon? Well, one year out, here’s my advice:
Try and enjoy it (it’s allowed).
Now, toons!
What is this? A wedding for ants mice? Yes, yes it is. This option is great if you’re not marrying someone with 25 cousins.
This one is from our era of living with our parents in Florida before the wedding, when 99% of my ideas revolved around lawn ornaments.
I never got to enjoy the mob wife fashion trend outside of leopard print underwear that no one sees in public, but I did have fun drawing all these gabagools.
And last but not least… the same concept but make it all about glub:
That’s all folks. As always, thanks for reading!
Okay, one last little plug for my bub: love you till the cows come home <3 mooooo <3
Congrats! <3 laughed at all of these toons <3
